Cox's page for this unit describes it as a DOCSIS 3.0 dual-band 802.11ac Panoramic Wifi Gateway with 24x8 channel bonding.. Cox's separate Bridge Mode article for the Panoramic Wifi Gateway turns off the gateway's routing so your own router can be used. Cox notes that gigabit speeds need a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, which this unit is not.

Model numbers: TG1682 · Type: Gateway (modem + router)

How to set it up

  1. Make sure the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) is not still the default.
  2. Open the Admin Tool at 192.168.0.1 and sign in (username admin; password on the gateway label, or 'password' if the label one fails).
  3. Go to Gateway, then At a Glance; next to Bridge Mode click Enable and confirm; the gateway restarts.
  4. Use your own router in place of the gateway's router.

Know before you switch

  • Bridge Mode is not compatible with MoCA services such as IPTV (Cox).
  • Bridge Mode is not compatible when fiber delivers service (home has an ONT) (Cox).
  • With Bridge Mode on you cannot use Panoramic WiFi and extenders; if extenders are already activated you cannot enable Bridge Mode (Cox).
  • cox.com showed a 'Cox is now Spectrum' banner on the day we checked; confirm current status before relying on this page.

How sure are we?

Confidence is medium. Model page labels the unit a Panoramic Wifi Gateway; Cox's Bridge Mode article does not list individual models, so the match rests on that label.

This page reports what the ISP documented on the date above. ISPs change firmware and policy; if your gateway screen differs, trust your ISP's current page.
